care guide
The SMEG kettle has been designed to make cleaning and maintenance easy. Find out how to take care of your kettle.
For maintaining the external surfaces of the kettle in their best conditions, it is recommended to clean them regularly after each use, waiting for them to cool down first.
These instructions are particularly relevant for the special colour editions, such as the matt and the metallic ones.
For the cleaning operations, we suggest to pour the cleaning detergent onto a damp cloth and to gently wipe it on the surface. If necessary, repeat the operation. Immediately after, dry with a soft cloth or a microfibre cloth.
To avoid damages to the surface, it is important to remember to:
- Do not use steam jets to clean the appliance
- Do not use cleaning products containing chlorine, ammonia or bleach
- Do not use abrasive or corrosive detergents (e.g. powder products, stain removers and metallic scourers)
- Do not use rough or abrasive materials or sharp metal scrapers
When pouring water in the kettle, you should not exceed its maximum capacity in order to avoid the building up of scale in the opening mechanisms of the kettle lid. This will help to preserve the product functionality. You can verify the maximum quantity of water directly in the kettle.
Descaling the kettle is a crucial and mandatory operation to guarantee its best performance and efficiency, to avoid damages to the product and to foster energy saving.
Initially, scale builds up on the inner base of the kettle. You should check this area to understand when it is time to descale.
Descaling should be performed regularly and any time that scale appears on the base of the kettle.
The kettle can be descaled using common household vinegar or a specific descaling product.
Follow these instructions if you are using common household vinegar. If you are using a specific descaling product, it is possible to apply the same procedure, but it is necessary to check on its instructions what is the correct quantity of product to add to the water.
1) Fill the kettle with water and connect it to the plug. For the kettles KLF03 (1.7 L of capacity), you should insert 1 L of water.
2) Activate the kettle and let the water boil.
3) Immediately after the boiling cicle, when the water is still hot, add the white vinegar (or the descaling product) directly in the kettle. For the KLF03 and KLF04, add from 100 to 500 ml of vinegar, according to the amount of scale. For the KLF05, add from 100 to 200 ml of vinegar.
4) Leave it for 8-10 hours.
5) Empty the kettle.
6) Fill the kettle with water and boil it. Empty the kettle, disposing of the water safely. Repeat this operation at least twice.
The procedure for descaling and the indications for the kettles care and maintenance are available in the user manuals as well. The user manuals can be found here.
